• Event is in CLCC Building
• Lunch is provided for volunteers, student participants and their coaches. There will lots of vendors on campus with food for sale!

Continue reading »]]> The Arizona Middle School Science Bowl (AZ MSSB) competition is a statewide academic competition for middle school students of Arizona. In this event, middle school students compete in a fast-paced verbal forum to solve technical problems and answer questions in all branches of science and math. The competition follows a toss-up question and answer format that is similar to the TV game show Jeopardy. The first place  team of this regional competition wins the opportunity to then compete at the National Science Bowl® for Middle School Students competition in Washington, D.C. on an all expense paid-trip.

The Arizona Middle School Science Bowl (AZ MSSB) is an initiative of the Arizona Technology Council Workforce Development Committee. It has been organized every year, since 2007, with the support of the Arizona Technology Council Foundation and our sponsors, the AZ MSSB is an academic event held annually to encourage student involvement in math and science activities.

The National Science Bowl for Middle School Students was started in 2002 by the US Department of Energy and includes two types of competitions – an academic math and science competition and a model car race. The car race provides the students with a “hands-on” science and engineering experience where the teams design, build ,and race their model cars.

Continue reading »]]> BASIS Scottsdale Team #1 wins opportunity to compete at the National Science Bowl® competition in Washington, D.C. on an all-expense paid trip

PHOENIX, Ariz. – February 28, 2011 — The Arizona Technology Council Foundation (http://www.aztechcouncil.org)  today announced the winners of the fifth annual Arizona Middle School Science Bowl competition held Saturday, February  26, 2011 at Arizona State University’s Tempe campus. Seventeen teams of up to five students in grades 6 to 8 from throughout the State of Arizona competed.

Sanctioned by the Department of Energy’s National Science Bowl®, the event was regionally organized yearly by members of the Arizona Technology Council’s Workforce Development Committee and sponsored in conjunction with IT consulting services leader Solugenix.

“The overall focus of this event is to get kids interested in science and math by making it fun and giving them the proper motivation, preparation, and encouragement,” said Steven G. Zylstra, president and CEO of the Arizona Technology Council. “We congratulate all of the students who participate in this annual event and look forward to cheering on the winning team at the national competition.”

The intense and fast-paced statewide academic competition for middle school students followed a “Jeopardy” game show style to tests participants’ knowledge in all areas of science and math. It consisted of several question and answer matches in a Round Robin and Double Elimination tournament.

“This event is a prime opportunity to help students reach their highest potential,” said Shashi Jasthi, president and CEO of Solugenix. “At Solugenix, we have always encouraged Science & Technology education and believe these fields and a skilled workforce in them hold the promise to our country’s future.”

The first place team receives an all-expenses-paid trip to Washington, D.C., to compete at the National Science Bowl from April 28 – May 2, 2011 and a complimentary mission on the simulator at the Arizona Challenger Space Center. Second and third place teams receive complimentary admission to the Challenger Center.
